King Urnayr of Caucasian Albania, a kingdom in today's Azerbaijan and southern Dagestan, is baptised, traditionally by Gregory the Illuminator, and Christianity becomes the religion of his court. The Albanian church later developed its own alphabet and remained linked to the Armenian church. At this point in the timeline (c. 315), the Bishop of Rome was Pope Sylvester I (31 January 314 – 31 December 335).
