# Olof Skötkonung baptised (c. 1008)

Olof Skötkonung, the first king to rule both the Swedes and the Geats, is baptised at Husaby, traditionally by the English missionary Sigfrid. Sweden's conversion was slow and took most of another century. At this point in the timeline (c. 1008), the Bishop of Rome was Pope John XVIII (25 December 1003 – 18 July 1009).

## Why it matters
Sweden became the last of the Scandinavian kingdoms to accept Christianity.
